Dubai’s premier diva then’s pearl necklace was put to auction and was sold for more than a million dollars last Tuesday, April 29 in the rich Gulf emirate.

Umm Kulthoum owned the necklace. She was famouse for her very emotive songs in the arab world and the whole middle east. The buyer of the her necklace who wanted to remain anonymous bought the necklace for a total of $1,385,000 which is more than 10 times the price expected by Christie’s — to a round of thundering applause from the packed room.

The pearl necklace with its multicolored enamel and white stone details was designed in 19th-century India. It was a gift to the diva by the late president of the United Arab Emirates, Sheik Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, a few years before her death in 1975 at the age of 70.
